OPS Diagnostics’ 5 mm 440 C Stainless Steel Grinding Balls can be used with 4 ml and 15 ml vials.  These treated and ready-to-use 5 mm Grinding Balls are made of slightly magnetic steel, allowing them to be retrieved with a magnet, while remaining resistant to corrosion. 

To develop and validate a high-throughput method for extracting DNA, these 5 mm grinding balls were used to homogenize root nodules of soybean and mung bean. The grinding balls were also used to homogenize the fungal pathogen Botrytis cinerea of blueberry for DNA extraction to profile the resistance of populations to various fungicides. 

In entomology, the same balls were used to grind ticks to extract their DNA to investigate the infection rates of Rickettsia species in the Lone Star tick populations. To develop a rapid and cost-effective method for generating multi-locus barcoding data from large collections of arthropods, DNA extraction was performed using the 5 mm stainless steel grinding balls.

All OPS Diagnostics’ grinding balls are treated to remove residual oils and contaminants prior to packaging so they are ready-to-use.
