Tougher than silica, less expensive than stainless steel, and inert in most solutions; 100 µm Acid Washed Zirconium Beads (Zirconium Silicate) are suitable for homogenizing pathogenic bacteria such as Salmonella typhimurium, Clostridium perfringens, and Filifactor alocis (including mycobacteria for DNA extraction). The 100 µm Acid Washed Zirconium Beads are utilized in the production of the enzyme Sortase A from Escherichia coli. This enzyme enhances gelation speed and stability, making it a valuable tool for in vivo applications and bioprinting. Additionally, these beads can serve as a sonication additive.

The 100 µm Acid Washed Zirconium Beads are ready-to-use, treated with acidified water to remove fine particles, dust, and other impurities typically found in untreated beads. They are then baked to drive off organic impurities.
