Molecular biology grade beads are cleaned with acidified water to remove fine particulates and contaminating trace materials, baked twice to destroy contaminating biomolecules, and then packaged aseptically into sterile media bottles. 
Destruction of contaminating nucleic acids is also tested using quantitative PCR based in-house testing procedures.
Silica beads are suitable for general grinding applications while zirconium beads have greater density and thus higher impact power.
